چکیده
Comment. The association between TEN and the use of lamotrigine in patients has been previously reported with concomitant use of valproic acid and lamotrigine. It has been hypothesized that valproic acid may interfere with the metabolism of lamotrigine, leading to increased lamotrigine blood levels. Our patient acquired TEN as a result of lamotrigine being concomitantly used with carbamazepine. Carbamazepine is one of the drugs most frequently implicated in TEN. It decreases lamotrigine blood levels by increasing its clearance. Also, the patient reported prior use of carbamazepine for the previous 3 years with no skin rash, so lamotrigine appears to be the causative agent. However, because of the temporal relationship of the onset of the patient’s rash and use of 2 antiepileptic drugs that are known to cause severe rashes, it is not certain which drug was the definite culprit. Further epidemiologic studies are needed to identify the incidence of lamotrigine-induced severe cutaneous reactions and the relative risk in concomitant use with other antiepileptic drugs.

Vulvo-vaginal symptoms are among the most common reasons that women seek health care; upward of 6 million physician office visits are made by women of all age ranges for vulvo-vaginal symptoms. Despite such staggering statistics, most clinicians are not adequately prepared to diagnose and treat chronic vulvo-vaginal symptoms. Overlapping clinical appearance, symptoms, and pathophysiology, compo...

Vulvitis chronica plasmacellularis or Zoon's vulvitis is a rare benign circumscribed inflammation of the vulvar mucosa. It is found in women ranging in age from 26 to 70 years. Shiny, macular erythematous lesions, which are irregular in shape and sharply marginated are usually observed. The histologic findings show chronic subepithelial dense inflammation composed largely of plasma cells. We he...

Z oon vulvitis (also known as plasma cell vulvitis) is a rare benign idiopathic vulvar inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology characterized by a bright-red mucosal lesion of significant chronicity and mainly affecting adult women. It typically appears as atrophic, shiny, erythematous plaques characterized by a dense, subepithelial mononuclear cell infiltrate largely composed of plasma cells....
متن کاملZoon vulvitis*
Zoon vulvitis or vulvitis chronica plasmacellularis is a rare, chronic benign inflammation of the vulvar mucosa, diagnosed histologically, with variable therapeutic responses. It is important to be diagnosed because it mimics the presentation of other genital conditions, such as lichen planus and squamous cell carcinoma, which require specific treatment. We report a case of a female patient wit...
